Why BTU Matters
BTU (British Thermal Unit) measures the cooling power of an air conditioner. If the BTU is too low, the unit runs constantly but never cools the room. If it's too high, the unit cycles on and off too frequently (short cycling), failing to dehumidify the air properly.
General Sizing Guide
- 100-150 sq ft: 5,000 BTU
- 150-250 sq ft: 6,000 BTU
- 250-300 sq ft: 7,000-8,000 BTU
- 300-350 sq ft: 8,000-10,000 BTU
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ceiling height affect AC size?
Yes. Standard sizing assumes 8ft ceilings. If you have higher ceilings, you have more air volume to cool, so we recommend increasing BTU by roughly 10%.
